We are proud to be part of a group organizing a benefit for Freddie Duran, a beloved local musician who has entertained audiences across the Valley for over 20 years.

In May 2020, Freddie was diagnosed with advanced Stage 4 prostate cancer. Despite this, he has faced the challenge with optimism and resilience. As a full-time musician, Freddie has continued to push through, maintaining his health and energy for each step of his journey. However, recently his condition has worsened, weakening his immune system and leading to a severe case of pneumonia, which has prevented him from performing at his usual venues.

To support Freddie during this difficult time, his fellow musicians from the Valley have organized a special fundraiser. Freddie’s approach to his illness is one of acceptance and peace. He chooses to live with cancer rather than fight it, maintaining a positive outlook in the face of adversity.

In the past six months, his health has declined, and the cancer has spread. After completing several radiation treatments with limited success, Freddie has resumed chemotherapy, completing three rounds with a fourth scheduled for March 2025.

We invite you to join us for the fundraiser on April 27, 2025, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 720 (4853 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018). 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

We are seeking your support through cash donations or the donation of items to be used as door prizes at the event. Your generosity will make a significant impact on Freddie’s ability to navigate this challenging time.

Spring of 2025

Facing challenges...

Well.... after the radiation treatments I was undergoing in late 2024 stopped being effective, my oncologists had to immediately begin another 6 rounds of chemo which I am currently in the midst of, brought on by an unbearable pain in my right knee, and a dangererously low Hemoglobin level, leaving me with low energy. So much to the point of needing a blood transfusion.  I hope to navigate through this complex period and begin creating and posting more social media content soon. Your prayers are deeply appreciated and felt.   Meanwhile, please continue to support me by coming out to see me perform.  It really does lift me up.

Summer 2024

3rd summer in new mexico

It's been a beautiful time here back home in Alamogordo.  Our annual camping family reunion was amazing, followed by weeklong trips up to Fort Collins, CO to see my cousin "Tweek" Luis Gamboa, and my brother Tony and familia in Fort Worth, TX (hey, that's two Forts!!). Didn't put that together until just now... as well as a wonderful short trip up to Taos.  I completed 4 radiation treatments before I came back to NM, and my oncologist told me to enjoy my summer and he'd see me in late September when I come back to Phoenix.  I feel OK....still a bit fatigued when I try physical activities but I'm able to perform at a reasonably high level regardless, gracias a Dios (Thanks to God).

I'm looking forward to my return to the Valley of the Sun, now that the temps have subsided a bit.  I will be doing four gigs a week at varous locations.  Check the calendar out and I hope to see you at one or more of these shows.  I have added a new night (Thursday) to my weekly schedule, The Trophy Bar in Ocotillo and look forward to playing for these wonderful owners.

Farewell New Mexico and here I come Arizona

summer 2022

back in new mexico!!

Well, I've been spending the entire summer in my hometown of Alamogordo, and it's been quite a whirlwind of events, parties, funerals, motorcycle rides, a few gigs here and there, and mostly working on the family property, renovating what I can, with the help of good friends, thanks to God.  My cancer is under control and my bone metastasis is stable, again gracias a Dios.

I will be here until Labor Day, and then return to Phoenix to continue performing at various venues there from Sept - May.  I swore I'd never spend another scorching summer in Phoenix again and I kept my word.  It's been cooler, though still warm here in southern New Mexico, but ohhhh the nights. Soooo nice... Thank you for your continued prayers and support.  I have a wheelbarrow full of gratitude for all of you, and a bunch of dirt and scrap wood and old nails.  Hasta la proxima, amigos....

Oh, here's a tribute to Olivia Newton-John that I did on the night of the day she died.  She had the voice and face of an angel... RIP
